The purposes of our organization include:
1) improving communications encouraging high standards of design
and craftsmanship, and preserving the heritage of our forbearers
among blacksmiths;
2) stimulating and educating the public concerning blacksmithing;
3) assisting in the restoration of historic metalwork;
4) and furthering the mission of the National Ornamental Metal
Museum.
Membership is open to anyone interested in blacksmithing. Corporate members’ advertisements are carried free in our newsletter and on our web site.
Meetings (including a demonstration or hands-on forging opportunities, and a raffle of interesting items) are generally held on the last Thursday evening of each month at 7 pm. We frequently meet at the Schering-Plough Smithy of the National Ornamental Metal Museum or at individual member’s shops or at commercial metal fabricating facilities.
Each Spring we sponsor “Forging On The River”, a three day workshop at the Museum which includes demonstrations by nationally known artists, an auction of artistic metalwork and an opportunity to purchase new or used equipment and supplies.
In the Fall we support the Museum “Repair Days” with an auction and donations of our skills and services. Monthly meeting announcements are sent to all members by email or telephone.
